If it has two wheels, a chain and requires muscle power to move, I've probably ridden it. I've had some good adventures on my bikes and always have my eye out for a new one.

The Perfect Bicycle Commute

On Friday I had a perfect bike commute. I made it down the mountain and through the Baylor School intersection with no problems. After I crossed the Walnut Street Bridge I found a nice stand serving free organic coffee and treats from Greenlife Grocery. The stand was sponsored by Outdoor Chattanooga. They do this the first Friday of each month. After I got my coffee and talked for a few minutes I hopped back on my bike made my way to work. Nothing like a free cup of coffee to energize the rest of your ride.

On the way home it got even better. I cruised through downtown and passed the Nightfall set-up,then made my way across the Market Street bridge. As I'm cruising down Cherokee Blvd, I decided to stop at Suck Creek Cycles to see what was up. As soon as I walked in Adam offered me one of the new wit beers from New Belgium Brewing, for FREE! You can't beat a free beer after a long day at work. Shortly after I finished my beer Chris Gilligan arrived with a home made elderberry, echinacea wine. I had a snort of that too. After I was done ingesting "re-invigorators" I got back on the bike and rode to and up the mountain back to the house.

It's hard to beat free, time-appropriate beverages bookending your workday.

Glad I could help you out on your epic journey!

The wine was made by the folks who live in my community at Sequatchie Valley Institute. We have an upcoming event during which we'll sample lots of wine, beer and mead which was made here.

Look for Wine in the Woods in the event list on svionline.org. It's a Halloween costume party on Saturday, Nov. 1 2008!
